Whitacre Greer Clay Brick Pavers Can Contribute to LEED Credits

Whitacre Greer fired clay brick pavers may contribute to LEED credits on your next project.  Many of Whitacre Greer’s standard colors have a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI)2 of 29 or greater making them eligible for LEED Credit SS 7.1 Heat Island Effect, non-roof.  Some Whitacre Greer clay brick pavers have a post-consumer recycled content of up to 6.25%, contributing to Credit MR 4.1 Recycled Content.  Whitacre Greer’s convenient manufacturing location in Alliance, OH is within a 500 mile radius of many major metropolitan areas.  Raw materials used in the manufacturing process are extracted near the plant making the Whitacre Greer pavers in many projects contributors to Credit MR 5.1 and 5.2 Regional Materials, extracted, processed and manufactured regionally.  Download a LEED Data Sheet and supporting test data here.

Jacksonville Chooses Whitacre Greer Clay Brick Pavers for Main Street Project

Design professionals for the city of Jacksonville, Florida recently chose Whitacre Greer pavers for the city’s Main Street Project.  4x8x2-1/4 and 4x8x3-inch pavers in shades 30 Clear Red, 33 Dark Antique and 36 Red Sunset were selected for pedestrian and vehicular areas.  The pavers will be supplied by Cash Building Materials of Jacksonville.

Solar Reflectance Index of Whitacre Greer 30 Series Pavers Exceeds Requirements for USGBC LEED Credit 7.1 Heat Island Effect Non-Roof

Recent testing of Whitacre Greer 30 series pavers revealed that Shades 30 Clear Red, 32 Antique, 33 Dark Antique and 36 Red Sunset meet USGBC LEED requirements for Credit 7.1 Heat Island Effect Non-Roof with a solar reflectance values (SRI)2 of at least 29.  Credit 7.1 Heat Island Effect Non-Roof is intended to reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.  Read more about the LEED rating system at the USGBC.org.  Solar Reflective Index test data is available here for review.

Permeable Clay Boardwalk Paver Concept Unveiled

Whitacre Greer is pleased to present a permeable clay paver concept based on the existing Boardwalk paver.  The 2-1/4x9x3-inch thick paver features void space of 11% and is designed for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.  When produced the unit will be available in Whitacre Greer’s full color palette.  View Whitacre Greer’s standard colors here.  The permeable Boardwalk paver is designed to assist with the management of stormwater runoff by reducing impervious paving surfaces.  View the conceptual drawing and selected available setting patterns in the links below.  Testing of this exciting new product is ongoing.

Muhammad Ali Center Utilizes Whitacre Greer 6x6x2-1/4 Cimmerean Clay Brick Pavers

The recently constructed Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky features walks and plaza areas paved with Whitacre Greer 6x6x2-1/4-inch fired-clay brick pavers.  The pavers were selected by design professionals at EDAWand supplied by local distributor General Shale Brick.  Click here for photos of this fabulous project.

University of Tennessee Selects Whitacre Greer Pavers for Neyland Stadium Renovation

The University of Tennessee recently selected Whitacre Greer pavers for its Neyland Stadium renovation.  The Whitacre Greer 4x8x2-3/4-inch Straight Edge Pavers in Shades 52 Majestic, 53 Cimmerian and 54 Chocolate for the project are being supplied by General Shale Brick’s Knoxville office.

Solar Relfectance Index of Whitacre Greer Pavers Exceeds Guidelines for LEED Sustainable Sites Credit 7.1 Heat Island Effect Non-Roof
